Rachel Winstead, Humanities
"Rachel earned her B.A. in English Literature and Southern Studies at the University of Mississippi and completed her Masters in Education in Secondary Education with Arizona State University. Her undergraduate honors college thesis on the history of racial inequality in Mississippi schools has been cited in the Mississippi Journal of History and won the Coterie award for Southern Studies.
Rachel has taught English as a second language to students all over the world and had the opportunity to spend a summer in China teaching English. She grew up in Mississippi and moved to Arizona after college to serve as an AmeriCorps member. After working as a programs coordinator with Maggie’s Place for the year, she realized she could not leave the desert or the classroom. She is passionate about the study of humanities and loves the Metro team!
In her free time, Rachel loves to trail run and recently started competing in races. If you walk into her living room, you will be greeted by her many house plants. She also loves to read, drink coffee, meet new people, and play boardgames!"
