Box Dances by Nicole L Olson in collaboration with Ryan Edwards of Masary Studios
Marshall Way Bridge, Saturday, Nov. 10, at 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.
Box Dances is a collaboration with artist Ryan Edwards of Masary Studios. The dance performance is inspired by and in conjunction with Edwards’ Sound Sculpture, an interactive sound and light instrument comprising 25 location-aware blocks — each representing notes in pitch, harmony and time — that report their locations to trigger synchronized lights and sounds. Olson and her dancers will perform three vignettes filled with fun, athletic and expressive movement.
Growth of Flowers by Nicole L Olson
Marshall Way Bridge, Saturday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m.
The Growth of Flowers is a 40-minute light and movement installation that explores the phenomenon of flowers and their birth from plants. Olson and her dancers will investigate how this incredible act of nature relates to humanity and how human growth is similar to growth in other forms. Prior to the 20-minute performance, five dancers will explore a focused improvisation for approximately 20 minutes. The choreographed piece will begin at 7 p.m. and the dancers’ costumes —embellished with 3D-printed flowers — will be illuminated by embedded LEDs, creating a light show specifically designed for the performance.
